Here we go again!

Here we go again with Reverend Wright. Does the media ever get tired of “covering” this man? Then, this morning, I hear Tavis Smiley on Tom Joiner talking about some very racist comments that were made by Pat Buchanan. I’ll paraphrase for you, “You black people should be more grateful to us white people for bringing you over here (on slave ships) to America and teaching you about religion and spending all the money we’ve spent on job training programs and welfare and how we should stop being so selfish…” I can’t continue, I’ll be going to lunch soon and I’m feeling nauseous! The “piece” I’m quoting from is called “Memo to Whitey” “Charming!” I’ve always known this man was a lunatic but now I have confirmation. Why does Pat get a pass while Sen. Obama has to “explain” his relationship to Rev. Wright? I’m not sure what Rev. Wright’s motivation is but I was under the impression we were still in America where we have free speech. Why don’t the democrats get an ad together with s

What Was He Thinking?

I was watching “Countdown with Keith Oberman ” last night and imagine my surprise when I hear that Pastor John Hagee said that Katrina was “…a punishment from God for inappropriate behavior.” I’m paraphrasing of course. In essence he said that because the City of New Orleans had scheduled a “Gay Pride Celebration,” that’s why Katrina hit! Where is the uproar? Where is the moral outrage? Everybody wants to harp on the statements that Reverend Wright made but I don’t hear the uproar about what Hagee said! Could it be because many of the victims were African -American? I don’t like to “play the race card…but come on…? I don’t want to focus on nonsense in this campaign as we have been doing, but this “man of God?” does not get a pass for making such a horrible statements. A little while ago, I wrote a blog about whether America is ready for a black president. But when I see this very racist ad that the republican party of North Carolina is running but nobody is talking about wh

What is this world coming to…?

With the economy in the shape it’s in right now, it makes you wonder what this world is coming to…? Why are people so selfish? Why are people so willing to vote for a tax cut for themselves at the expense of the education of our youth and the healthcare of the less fortunate? Why are we so indifferent to the fact that there are people in Haiti eating dirt? What is this world coming to…? Has the situation become so desperate that we have switched to a self-preservation mode? Why does it seem that when things get “bad,” we stop caring for our fellow man? I know I’m raising a lot of questions but I really would like some answers! Maybe the answer is, when we believe we are in a desperate situation, we feel that we must “protect our own!” Maybe if we bring God back into our lives, we would realize that caring for our own families is not mutually exclusive to caring what happens to other people’s families. “Am I my brother’s keeper?” Well, the simple answer is “yes, yes you are.”

Have you ever had one of those days…?

Have you ever had one of those days that turned into one of those weeks? I don’t know what’s going on but it feels like every one of Satan’s minions is conspiring against the tutoring center lately. I certainly hope that means we have huge blessing on the way! We have been working quietly for nearly seventeen years to help educate our youth. We have had thousands of success stories with very little fanfare. I say all this to say that I know we are providing a needed service but there are days when we wonder if it’s really worth all the aggravation? In my opinion, there is nothing more important than educating our future leaders. Yet, teachers are the most underpaid and under appreciated profession. People seem to overlook the fact that without teachers, there would be no doctors or lawyers. Perhaps we need a Public Relations person to put the proper “spin” on what we do on a daily basis. I know that older people and children are not “sexy” or “flashy” but they are the people

Where Do We Go From Here…?

I am not even going to “sugar coat” it… my marriage has been in a mess, a state of flux for the last 3-plus years. We are seemingly, slowly working our way back to some kind of normalcy. Now, I get to work and find out we are under attack on that front! The devil is not happy unless there is “mess and drama” going on. Can we ever get to a point in our lives when things will be calm on all fronts? Does that situation really exist? I think I heard the minister say that you should be wary if you aren’t dealing with some issues or challenges in your life, it means God is not molding, shaping and preparing you for your blessing. I don’t know about that but I for one would like to have the blessing, the peace and the calm. I don’t need the tests, just the blessings! I would like to tell my boss-my mom that everything is going to be fine and work out perfectly. I should know by now beyond a shadow of a doubt that nothing is too hard for God. But still, somehow we doubt him… Why is

The Blessing of Giving

I apologize for missing a few days. It was just not possible for me to take the time to make the entries. I took the weekend off and did not touch a computer! Thursday, I went to the store to buy groceries. Not really an unusual activity except that it was n0 t for my family. It was for a family in need. I am not a wealthy person but it needed to be done so I did it. I wish I could describe the “charge” I got from that simple, little act. I need to tell this family what a blessing they were for me. I need to tell them what a “high” that it gave me! Everyone should experience that “high!” It does not have to be monetary giving; it can be giving your time. I need to teach my son that giving is really fun.

How Are We Doing With Dr. King's Dream?

Recently we commemorated the anniversary of Dr. King's death. It was "celebrated" with a re commitment march. I heard Reverend Al Sharpton on the Tom Joiner Show this morning talking about what kind of legacy we are leaving for our children and grandchildren. Right now, I am concerned that we are moving in the wrong direction. While it is true that we have an African-American and a woman running for president, we still have thousands of people losing their jobs and their homes. We still have far too many American children going to bed at night hungry! Before his untimely death, Dr. King was in the process of organizing a march on Washington for the poor of all races! Many people of all races are finding themselves in desperate situations because so many of our jobs are being sent oversees. They are going the the very same food banks for help to which they used to contribute! Meanwhile, the politicians seem far too concerned with an ill-conceived war than deali

Are We Really Ready?

Yesterday, I asked if we were really ready for an African-American president. Today I wonder if we can handle a female president? I heard Senator Clinton on Tom Joiner this morning talking about her plans to cure breast cancer in our lifetime. Sounds wonderful! Is she ever going to get the opportunity to implement her plan? Are we going to spend all our time trying to determine if she has an honesty issue? Should that be a determining factor when we go into the voting booth? Are we going to get "caught up" in the idea of electing the first female president? What happens when she goes to the Middle East to deal with leaders in that part of the world? I fear she may have the same amount of success that Secretary of State Rice if having... Can we just see her as an extremely capable Senator that has spent her career trying to help people? Are men going to vote for a female candidate? Some men don't even like having a female boss...Could they handle a female Comma

Are We Really Ready?

Are we really ready for a black president when we can't seem to get past the "race issue?" Why do we care what church Senator Obama attends? Why does the news media (CNN) seem so determined to "make" Senator Obama leave his church? I don't think anyone asked George Bush what church he attended when he was running for President. Could it be that Rev. Wright's comments about race made some people feel uncomfortable? I'm certain most of what Rev Wright said has been uttered at countless black churches all over America. Sometimes it's difficult to hear the truth! Why are we letting something so petty distract us from the real issues? Can Senator Obama effectively deal with the myriad of problems that we have in this country? That's the question that needs to be asked! Not what church he chooses to attend! Are we going to allow racism to keep this very talented, intelligent individual from getting elected? I love this great country and I know
